AUB Mediterraneo Hosts the Cyprus Mathematical Society Awards Ceremony

May 12, 2025 – Pafos, Cyprus - The American University of Beirut - Mediterraneo (AUB Mediterraneo) proudly hosted the Awards Ceremony of the Cyprus Mathematical Society on Saturday, May 10, bringing together distinguished guests, educational leaders, and some of the brightest young mathematical talents in Cyprus.

Held at AUB Mediterraneo’s campus, the event drew a full house of students, families, and local stakeholders, including AUB Mediterraneo Rector, Dr. Wassim El Hajj, and Mayor of Paphos, Mr. Phedonas Phedonos. The ceremony celebrated academic achievement and highlighted the importance of mathematics in shaping the next generation of problem-solvers and innovators.

The event was presented by Dr. Georgios Charalambous, Professor of Mathematics at AUB Mediterraneo and Organizing Secretary of the Cyprus Mathematical Society. In his remarks, Charalambous expressed his aspirations for the future of mathematics in the region: “It is within our vision at AUB Mediterraneo to establish the university as a Cypriot hub of mathematical excellence, and I am grateful to our rector and the university’s leadership for embracing and supporting the Mathematical Society and all initiatives in this direction.”

The ceremony marked a milestone in AUB Mediterraneo’s growing role as an academic and intellectual hub in Cyprus, reflecting its ongoing commitment to fostering collaboration, innovation, and community engagement in the fields of science, mathematics, and beyond.
