AUB Mediterraneo to Cooperate with Pafos Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Regional Board of Tourism
Promoting Cooperation Between the Local Bodies and AUB Mediterraneo
A meeting was held between a delegation of the Board of Pafos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Regional Board of Tourism, and the rector of the American University of Beirut - Mediterraneo (AUB Mediterraneo).
The meeting was attended by the President of the Chamber Georgios Mais, former president of the Chamber Andreas Dimitriadis, Secretary/Director of the Chamber Marinos Stylianou, President of the Regional Board of Tourism Kyriakos Drousiotis and Executive Director of the Board Nassos Hatzigeorgiou, while from the side of the university, there was Dr. Wassim El Hajj, Rector and Professor of Computer Ccience and Yiannis Anthis, Administrator.
During the presentation, the representatives of AUB Mediterraneo were given the opportunity to inform the local bodies about the five undergraduate programs that will be offered at the university: BS in computer science; BS in psychology; BA in philosophy, politics and economics; BS in industrial engineering; and BBA in management, all of which will feed the labor market both in Cyprus and the region. At the same time, the university will offer two master's programs: MS in engineering management and the MS in business analytics, will provide the needed expertise to enhance current growing businesses and establish new ones.
Special mention was made of the university's cooperation with Pafos Chamber of Commerce & Industry and it was agreed that at a later stage the two organizations will proceed to sign a Memorandum of Cooperation at the levels and sectors to be agreed upon. Rector Wassim El Hajj informed the chamber`s members about the university's goals to attract students from Cyprus, as well as from Greece, England, Europe and the countries of the Gulf and stated that he is optimistic from the interest the university is receiving from students and parents alike.
He also mentioned the many scholarships that the university will offer, in addition to financial aid, to ensure that deserving students receive high quality education with a very reasonable tuition. He also stressed on the plan of AUB Mediterraneo in the future to install and operate research centres. Finally, during the discussion, the university stated that the establishment and operation of a School of Medicine and Nursing in Pafos is being seriously investigated.
President of the Chamber Georgios Mais emphasized the need to strengthen the ties and intensify the collaborations between the university community and the business world since the benefits will be multiple and two-way. President of the Regional Board of Tourism Kyriakos Drousiotis moved in the same vein, declaring that the board will support the efforts of the University.
