Carlos del Rio
A trustee since 2023, Carlos del Rio currently serves as the H. Cliff Sauls Distinguished Professor and Chair of Department of Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine. He is also the Co-director at the Emory Center for AIDS Research and the Emory Vaccine and Treatment Evaluation Unit. Dr. Del Rio’s research focuses on HIV care and prevention, emerging infectious diseases and infectious complications of substance use disorder. He has worked for over a decade with hard-to-reach populations to improve outcomes within the U.S. and Worldwide. Dr. del Rio is a member of the National Academy of Medicine where he is also the International Secretary and elected Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He is a graduate of Universidad La Salle (MD ‘83) in Mexico, his native country, and of Emory University (Residency, internal medicine ’86; Fellowship, infectious diseases ‘88).
