Recognizing the strategic opportunity provided by our location in Cyprus — a gateway between Europe, the Middle East, and Africa — AUB Mediterraneo actively prioritizes participation in EU-funded research programs and initiatives supported by Cypriot research authorities and foundations. This allows us to contribute meaningfully to European research ecosystems while drawing on our unique regional expertise and global networks.
At the heart of our research agenda lie two interrelated, cross-cutting themes: sustainability and technology. We view these not merely as topics of study but as essential lenses through which all our research priorities are considered. AUB Mediterraneo is positioning itself as a bridge connecting knowledge systems, fostering innovation, and addressing complex societal challenges through research that is responsible, impactful, and aligned with the pressing needs of our time.
AUB Mediterraneo has successfully completed all required registrations, established robust administrative processes, and launched its Office of Research—positioning the university to actively participate in EU funding opportunities. In its first research cycle (2024–2025), AUB Mediterraneo secured projects under a range of competitive funding programs, including Erasmus+ (KA1, KA2), Horizon Europe, HEInnovate, NextMed, and ERC Vision. Our growing network of partner countries spans Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Norway, Romania, and Spain. Through these efforts, AUB Mediterraneo is firmly committed to advancing European research, education, and innovation, while promoting excellence, meaningful impact, and strong transnational collaboration.

STORM addresses the critical challenge of energy sustainability in the Mediterranean. This project focuses on developing and implementing innovative seasonal thermal energy storage solutions. By capturing and storing solar energy during summer months for use in winter, STORM aims to provide a reliable, cost-effective, and eco-friendly heating and cooling solution for buildings across the region.
