AUB Mediterraneo and Cyprus Symphony Orchestra Foundation Sign Memorandum of Understanding to Advance Music Education and Cultural Collaboration
Pafos, Cyprus – May 15, 2026: The American University of Beirut – Mediterraneo (AUB Mediterraneo) and the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra Foundation signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at the University’s campus in Pafos, marking the beginning of a strategic collaboration centered on music education, cultural engagement, and artistic exchange.
The partnership reflects the shared commitment of both institutions to fostering creativity, supporting artistic development, and strengthening the connection between higher education and the cultural sector in Cyprus.
The Memorandum provides a framework for collaboration across several areas, including the development of joint educational and artistic initiatives; the organization of lectures, seminars, and masterclasses; student participation in educational programs and rehearsals of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra and the Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra; the co-organization of concerts and cultural events; internship opportunities in cultural management and event organization; and collaboration in research and European programs.
The agreement was signed on behalf of AUB Mediterraneo by Rector Dr. Wassim El Hajj, and on behalf of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra Foundation by Director of Administration Mr. Christos Xenophontos and Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra Artistic Director Dr. Yiorgos Kountouris, in the presence of academics, artists, and invited guests.
Speaking on the occasion, both institutions highlighted the importance of creating meaningful opportunities for students and the wider community to engage with music, culture, and the arts through collaboration, education, and shared initiatives.
This collaboration further reinforces AUB Mediterraneo’s commitment to interdisciplinary learning and community engagement, while supporting the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra Foundation’s mission to promote musical excellence and cultural participation in Cyprus.
