Jose Zaglul, PhD
A trustee since 2007, and an AUB Distinguished Alumnus (BS '71, MS '73), Zaglul is the former and the founding president of EARTH University (Escuela de Agricultura de la Región Tropical Húmeda) in Costa Rica, established in 1989. He was also honored with the title President Emeritus from the EARTH University Board of Trustees. Previously he served as head of the Animal Production Department at the International Center for Tropical Agricultural Research and Training in Costa Rica, and as professor and vice-president of research and extension at the Costa Rican Institute of Technology. Zaglul is the former president (2005-07) and a current executive committee member of the Global Consortium of Higher Education and Research for Agriculture (GCHERA), and is a member of the advisory board of the United World College Costa Rica Foundation. In 2013, he became a member of the AdAstra Rocket Company Board of Directors. He has been awarded honorary doctorates from the University of Ukraine, Kiev; California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo; Chatham University, Pittsburgh; and the International Center for Tropical Agricultural, Costa Rica. Zaglul is a distinguished alumnus of the University of Florida (MS, food science and human nutrition, '80; PhD, animal science, '81).
