AUB Mediterraneo and Pafos FC Partner to Advance Sports and Academic Research

Pafos, Cyprus – November 25, 2024 – The American University of Beirut – Mediterraneo (AUB Mediterraneo) and Pafos FC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today to foster collaboration in sports development, research, and community engagement. The agreement, signed by Dr. Wassim El Hajj, Rector of AUB Mediterraneo, and Mr. Charis Theocharous, CEO of Pafos FC, establishes a framework for joint initiatives aimed at promoting athletic excellence, academic growth, and societal impact.

Under this partnership, AUB Mediterraneo and Pafos FC will work together to co-organize events such as sports tournaments, friendly matches, and leadership seminars that unite the university community and the football club in celebrating the unique qualities of the place that Pafos as a city and Cyprus as a geopolitically strategic country represent as global knowledge hubs. The collaboration will advance a range of learning and knowledge co-creation activities including hosting workshops and coaching clinics to promote the pursuit of excellence and human flourishing.

Research will play a significant role in the partnership, with both institutions focusing on areas such as sports science, management, leadership, and marketing to advance knowledge and improve practices. Additionally, the agreement emphasizes youth outreach programs, including sports camps and community initiatives designed to promote health, education, and athletic development in the local community. The partnership also envisions conferences addressing topics such as sports for peace and prosperity, further solidifying their shared commitment to societal impact.
