Accreditation and Recognition

The American University of Beirut – Mediterraneo (AUB Mediterraneo) is a twin campus of the American University of Beirut (AUB) in Beirut, Lebanon and a legally established private, non-profit university in Pafos, Cyprus. It was established and commenced operations in 2023 and operates within the Cyprus higher education framework and the European Higher Education Area (EHEA).

Institutional Registration and Authorization in Cyprus

AUB Mediterraneo is registered with the Universities Registry of the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth of the Republic of Cyprus as a private, non-profit university. The Ministry is the competent public authority responsible for higher education policy, institutional oversight, and the regulatory framework governing universities in the Republic of Cyprus.

Academic Program Accreditation in Cyprus

AUB Mediterraneo’s academic departments and study programs are subject to external quality assurance by the Cyprus Agency of Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Higher Education (CYQAA). AUB Mediterraneo’s current CYQAA accreditation is valid until the end of the spring semester 2028.

Institutional Accreditation in the United States

AUB Mediterraneo is approved by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) as a branch campus of the American University of Beirut (AUB). AUB is an accredited institution by MSCHE, an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). AUB was first accredited by MSCHE in June 2004, with accreditation reaffirmed in 2009, 2014, and 2019. MSCHE accreditation reflects institutional quality based on the institution’s mission, goals, resources, and performance, as assessed through periodic internal and external review. The institution’s next reaccreditation review is scheduled for the 2027–2028 academic year. The full and updated Statement of Accreditation Status is maintained on the MSCHE website.

New York State Charter

AUB operates under a charter granted by the New York State Education Department (NYSED), and AUB Mediterraneo operates as an AUB branch campus under that charter.

Faculty of Business Accreditations & International Recognition

The Faculty of Business at AUB Mediterraneo holds both AACSB and EQUIS accreditation, placing it among a select group of business schools worldwide recognized for excellence in business education. As part of AUB’s shared accreditation framework, and building on the legacy of the Suliman S. Olayan School of Business, the Faculty delivers programs that meet internationally recognized standards of academic quality, innovation, and continuous improvement. The Faculty is also a member of leading international networks, including the Business Graduates Association (BGA) and the Global Business School Network (GBSN).
