Understand What You Need to Apply
Graduate admission is open to applicants who have completed, or are in the process of completing, a recognized undergraduate degree.
This page will help you understand the documents you need to submit, the English-language requirements that may apply, and the information you should prepare before starting your application.
What You Need to Submit
Requirements for admission to graduate programs are as follows:
- Official transcripts from all institutions previously attended providing a complete record of study.
- Statement of purpose.
- Resume or CV
- English language requirement (upon admission and prior to matriculation).
English Language Requirements
Applicants who meet one of the following conditions at the time of application are exempt from the English-language requirement:
- Applicant has completed an undergraduate or graduate degree at AUB or AUB Mediterraneo.
- Applicant was admitted to a degree program at AUB or AUB Mediterraneo no more than 5 years ago and completed at least two regular terms with good academic standing.
- Applicant has completed an undergraduate or graduate degree at an accredited college or university in North America, Great Britain, Australia, or New Zealand.
- Applicant has completed, no more than 5 years ago, an undergraduate or graduate degree at an accredited college or university elsewhere in the world where English is listed as the only language of instruction (in the International Association of Universities World Higher Education Database) and where admission requires English language proficiency test scores that meet our English language requirements.
All other students applying to master’s programs can demonstrate English language proficiency by submitting scores that meet or exceed the minimum score on one of several tests listed below.

Additional Information
- Applicants are not required to take the GRE or GMAT for admission. These tests may, however, be used to meet the English-language requirement.
- Applicants are requested to demonstrate English language proficiency as soon as possible after receiving their admission decision.

Students studying at the American University of Beirut – Mediterraneo will benefit from the university’s close ties with the AUB campus in Beirut in the form of student exchanges, faculty exchanges, collaborative research projects, and expanded online and hybrid learning opportunities. To further this global mission, all AUB Mediterraneo students must be eligible to travel to Lebanon and will be required to complete a period of residency at AUB in Beirut. This can be done in one of three ways:
- Conduct a project on community-based learning in Beirut
- Complete an internship in Beirut
- Spend one or two academic terms in Beirut
