Understand What You Need to Apply
Undergraduate applicants should have completed, or be in the process of completing, Grade 12 or an equivalent recognized secondary-school qualification.
Who Can Apply?
Students are eligible for admission upon completing 12 years of schooling (Grade 12 or its equivalent, such as Year 13 in the British system) and finishing any recognized secondary school leaving certificate program.
Examples of qualifying certificates include:
- High School Diploma (or equivalent programs),
- Cypriote Apolytirion,
- General Certificate of Education (GCE),
- International Baccalaureate (IB),
- Lebanese Baccalaureate,
- French Baccalaureate,
- Syrian Baccalaureate,
- Jordanian Tawjihi,
- German Abitur, or
- Official government secondary school leaving certificate/diploma.
Students who completed “advanced level high school courses” (ex: IB, AP courses), may have the possibility of receiving credit equivalences if approved by the Office of the Registrar.
Applicants who are uncertain whether their qualification is accepted should contact Admissions before applying.
What You Need to Submit
Prospective students must submit their undergraduate first-year application as soon as they begin their final year (e.g., Grade 12) of secondary school, along with the following documents:
- High school official transcript for Grades 10 and 11 or their equivalent;
- Official form for Applicant Secondary School Record;
- A required standardized entrance exam which can be any one of the exams listed below.
You may begin your application before receiving all final school results.
Important Note
Grade 12 records do not affect admission decisions because students apply to AUB Mediterraneo at the beginning of Grade 12.
Entrance Exam Options
Applicants may apply using one of the following entrance exam routes listed below.
SAT
Applicants may take the SAT more than once and benefit from superscoring.
Superscoring combines the highest score achieved in:
- Mathematics
- Evidence-Based Reading and Writing
ACT
Applicants may take the ACT more than once and benefit from superscoring.
Superscoring combines the highest scores achieved in:
- English
- Reading
- Mathematics
International AS-Level Examinations
Applicants using the International AS-Level route must submit three AS-Level subjects:
- Mathematics (Math or Math-Further)
- Two non-language subjects
Required results must be submitted by the relevant application deadline.
Cypriot Public Apolytirion
Applicants may apply using the Cypriot Public Apolytirion together with Lyceum A and B results.
Students may apply before their final Apolytirion results are issued and complete their file once the results become available.
Applicants who do not meet the minimum averages required for Early Admission may be required to take a mathematics examination at AUB Mediterraneo.
Notes
- Only one exam type is considered. If students submit scores from multiple exam types, we will consider the exam type that maximizes the student’s chance for admission.
- Students must submit the AS-Level standardized exam results for the required subjects before the admission application deadline to complete their application. For the SAT/ACT test, refer to the deadline section below under “Latest SAT/ACT test considered”.
- Students with the Cypriot Public Apolytirion may apply as soon as their Apolytirion results are issued in July for the academic year that begins in the same year. Students may also apply earlier, pending the Apolytirion results, to complete their application file.
How Admission is Assessed
Regular Admission is competitive and applications are evaluated equally on:
- Grades 10 and 11 school transcripts: 50%
- Entrance exam results: 50%
There are no fixed cut-off scores or grades for Regular Admission. Stronger academic performance and entrance exam results improve an applicant’s chances of admission.
When reviewing school records, Admissions considers the applicant’s performance in relation to the class average and other applicants from the same school. Grade 12 results do not normally form part of the admission decision because students generally apply at the beginning of Grade 12.
A special early admission plan for fall admission has been designed for outstanding secondary school students who must fulfill the Early Admission Criteria concurrently.
Students who are accepted for early admission (non-binding) automatically receive an Early Admission Merit Scholarship.
Applications for early admission that don’t meet the following early admission criteria will automatically be considered based on the regular admission criteria.
Conditions After Acceptance
An offer of admission remains conditional until the student has:
- Met the English-language requirement
- Successfully completed Grade 12
- Received the certificate or diploma confirming completion of secondary education
Students may not register until these conditions have been met.
Evidence is normally required no later than one month before the start of the term.
English-Language Requirement
All undergraduate applicants must demonstrate English-language proficiency through an accepted test.
Applicants are encouraged to meet the English-language requirement as soon as possible after receiving an admission offer.

Linking to the American University of Beirut in Beirut
Students studying at the American University of Beirut – Mediterraneo will benefit from the university’s close ties with the AUB campus in Beirut in the form of student exchanges, faculty exchanges, collaborative research projects, and expanded online and hybrid learning opportunities. - Conduct a project on community-based learning in Beirut
- Complete an internship in Beirut
- Spend one or two academic terms in Beirut
