Complaints and Grievance Procedures

AUB Mediterraneo is committed to addressing student complaints and grievances fairly and through established University procedures. Students are encouraged to use the appropriate internal process so that the University has an opportunity to review and respond to the matter.

Internal Student Complaints and Grievances

Students should consult the Student Grievance Policy for information about the University’s procedures for raising and resolving grievances.

Students may also submit an academic or administrative complaint through the Student Complaint Submission form in their Student Portal:

Student Portal → Student Petitions → Student Complaint Submission

The external complaint procedures below have specific purposes and do not replace the University’s procedures for resolving individual student grievances. Individuals considering an external complaint should review the relevant body’s policy to determine whether the matter falls within its jurisdiction.

Complaints to the Cyprus Agency of Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Higher Education (CYQAA)

AUB Mediterraneo’s academic departments and study programs are subject to external quality assurance by the Cyprus Agency of Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Higher Education (CYQAA).

Individuals or organizations with substantiated concerns about an accredited institution’s, department’s, or program’s compliance with CYQAA’s external evaluation criteria or applicable quality-assurance standards may bring those concerns to CYQAA’s attention. CYQAA also considers complaints concerning the integrity of its external evaluation processes.

Information about the scope, evidence requirements, and consideration of complaints is available in the CYQAA Complaints’ Policy. CYQAA specifies that complaints must be credible, substantiated, and supported by appropriate evidence.

Complaints to the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE)

The American University of Beirut is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), and AUB Mediterraneo is approved by MSCHE as an AUB branch campus.

MSCHE accepts complaints concerning an applicant or member institution’s compliance with the Commission’s Standards for Accreditation, Requirements of Affiliation, policies and procedures, or the institution’s own policies and procedures.

Individuals considering a complaint should review MSCHE’s applicable policy and submission requirements on the MSCHE Complaints page. Complaints are submitted using MSCHE’s online form, and supporting documentation must be provided in English and in PDF format.

Complaints to the New York State Education Department

AUB operates under a charter granted by the New York State Education Department (NYSED), which registers the University’s degree programs. AUB Mediterraneo operates as an AUB branch campus under that charter.

Individuals who wish to submit a complaint to NYSED should first review the NYSED complaint procedure and its requirements. Where appropriate, a complaint may then be submitted using the NYSED complaint form
